Kitten Craze: 24 Abandoned Kittens

This is the reality of rescue, and the reason we are here.

We were contacted earlier this week with a desperate plea for help with 24 kittens, all from the same home. A kindhearted lady who formerly ran a private cat rescue had offered to take “some kittens” from someone in their community, but they did not anticipate what they would be walking into.

“I never thought there would be this many. I have never seen this many kittens.”

The late-night request for help was quickly received by office staff, and there was no question about our decision. We told them we could take all 24 and care for them until they can find their new homes. We had two days to prepare for their arrival.

While 24 kittens may sound like a room full of fun, it throws a huge wrench in our funding for animal care. The veterinary procedures for these kittens alone is going to cost over $5,000 – which does not even account for any additional medication, food, exams, or housing.

We have been 100% community funded since our beginnings in 1969, and we have helped tens of thousands of animals over our 54 years. We have helped connect thousands of families from all over the province and beyond with their beloved pets. We’ve helped offer medical procedure, supplies, food, and pet housing to those in need.

Now we need your help. There are 24 little lives relying on us to find their happy endings.

Even the smallest donations can help us care for these kittens and help us continue to care for the countless others in need: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/103410
