Bide Awhile Animal Shelter is proud to offer a Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program for eligible low-income individuals and students.
Spaying or neutering your pet helps reduce pet overpopulation in our community while providing important health and behavioural benefits for your companion. These routine procedures are typically completed on an outpatient basis, meaning most pets return home the same day.
Eligibility
To qualify for this program, applicants must provide one of the following:
- Proof of income showing a Notice of Assessment of less than $30,000, or
- A valid student ID.

Cat Program (available for cats over the age of 6 months)
Our Low Cost Spay & Neuter Cat Program is offered in partnership with:

- Elmsdale Animal Hospital
- Vetcetera Animal Hospital
- Bedford South Veterinary Hospital
- Dartmouth Veterinary Hospital
A program fee is payable to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter at the time of purchasing your certificate. The surgery will be scheduled and take place on a separate day with the chosen clinic. For program pricing, please call 902-469-9578.
Dog Program (available for dogs between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old)
*Female dogs must weigh under 30kg

A program fee is payable to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter at the time of purchasing your certificate. To purchase a certificate, your dog must be present with you at the time of purchase to ensure a proper weight is recorded on the certificate.
