2010 Volunteer Appreciation Event - June 2010

Bide Awhile 2010 Volunteer of the Year Christine Greene (with plaque),
with Past President Brenda Ruggles.

2009 Volunteer Appreciation Event - June 13, 2009

The 2009 "Volunteer of the Year" is Adam Cooney, a wonderful supporter of Bide Awhile, who provides valuable assistance with our website and annual "Golfing for Critters" event. Thanks Adam - volunteers like you make Bide Awhile the amazing place it is today.

This year, the Supporter Relations Committee and Volunteer Committee hosted a BBQ to thank all of the Society's hard working volunteers for another successful year - the first full year in our wonderful new building! Lots of hot dogs, hamburgers, cookies and cake were enjoyed by those in attendance. Special thanks to the Wyse Road SaveEasy for donating the grilled goodies. The rain stayed away, but we were prepared as our great friends at Royal Canin donated the use of their tent.

2009 Annual General Meeting

It's nice to be home! For the second year in a row, our Annual General Meeting has been held at our very own Shelter. We know our friends love to visit so it's wonderful to be able to share stories of the year's successes under our own roof.

On June 13th members gathered to hear reports on the year's activities from our Executive Director and Board members chairing the various Shelter committees. President Brenda Ruggles spoke of the dedication and hard work it takes on the part of everyone involved with the Shelter - staff, volunteers and donors - to make everything possible.

As members listened to reports, pictures of animals cared for at the Shelter were projected onto the wall. Our special thanks to staff member Allie Ferguson for so beautifully photographing our animal guests. Darrold Gould, Executive Director, reporting on the number of animals rescued this past year, said "We built this new Shelter so we could help more animals and that's exactly what we're doing".

Thanks to everyone who turned out for our annual meeting - it's always a pleasure to talk about the work we do for the animals in our care. And a special word of appreciation to member Jack Rowe for so graciously thanking the Shelter's staff and Board for their efforts on behalf of all members.

Volunteers, members and guests then trooped outside to witness the unveiling and blessing of our new garden and stone wall. President Brenda Ruggles and her family created and dedicated this lovely spot to their mom Nellie Loughran who passed away last year. Nellie loved her garden and all animals, so their gift to Bide Awhile is a fitting and lasting tribute to her memory.

2008 Annual General Meeting

Bide Awhile's 2008 AGM was held on June 14, 2008 in our new shelter! An unprecedented 9 new board members were elected - we are excited to draw on the experience, talents, and skills of the new board members to continue building on the overwhelming successes of the past year.
