Without volunteers Bide Awhile Animal Shelter would not have been in service for over 35 years. Without strong volunteer support in all aspects of the Shelter we would be unable to move forward. Bide Awhile Animal Shelter runs on 98% volunteer support and 2% staff.
Bide Awhile's second annual Volunteer Appreciation Event was held on June 14th in honor of the many volunteers who work tirelessly on Bide Awhile's behalf. Whether our volunteers are socializing & comforting our animal guests, staging a fundraiser or planning future directions, our volunteers are the heart of Bide Awhile.
As past chair of the Volunteer Committee, Melissa Grant (shown here welcoming everyone to this event) said "Our volunteers got us where we are today, where we were yesterday and where we'll be tomorrow." Our new Shelter is a testament to their hard work and determination and it was a thrill for all of us to enjoy this celebration in our new building.
This celebration was also an opportunity to recognize one of our volunteers for her outstanding contribution to Bide Awhile. Chris Hornberger, Past President, is shown here presenting the 2nd Annual Volunteer of the Year Award to Helen MacCallum.
Helen has been a dedicated Bide Awhile volunteer for many years. While she's helped with many fundraisers and special events over the years, she's best known for her constant willingness to help. Helen is also the driving force behind the success of our "Cat Banks" and works hard to ensure they are regularly emptied and the donations tallied - no small feat when you consider that these donation banks are scattered across HRM. Our deepest thanks to Helen and our congratulations on an award well earned!
