There are an estimated 150,000 homeless cats in metro. Abandoned, lost, neglected, and abused, their suffering is real. They are prone to disease, accidents, and violence at the hands of uncaring people. And their misery will live on in generations of unwanted litters. Some see only the nuisance of "strays" in their neighbourhoods. At Bide Awhile, we see the need to act.
Every year we care for hundreds of homeless animals, providing food, warmth and shelter, comfort and companionship, medical care, safety, and spaying or neutering. Please assist to continue providing these valuable services by visiting our secure on-line donation area at CanadaHelps.org:

You can also help the shelter by:
- Collecting Sobey's grocery tapes for the Shelter from your friends, family and co-workers. Last year this raised over $5300.00 for Bide Awhile.
- Dropping your spare coins in one of our Cat Banks. A little goes a long way and those small gifts added up to more than $3000.00 last year.
United Way Campaign can support Bide Awhile
Soon the annual United Way campaign will be under way. Canvassers in your workplace will be asking for your support through an annual payroll deduction plan. It’s an easy way to support the great work of local charities like Bide Awhile.
Even though we’re not a member of the United Way, you can make Bide Awhile your preferred charity by listing us on the back of your form and including our charitable number 88945 9095 RR0001. The United Way will make sure your donation goes to the shelter. Your employer can also help! Ask if they offer a gift- matching program.
Last year Bide Awhile received more than $18,460.00 from United Way donors. With your help, that amount could be even higher this year.
Please designate Bide Awhile Animal Shelter as your charity of choice.
We Will Spend:
- $30 to feed one cat for one month.
- $156 to pay our average monthly fuel bill to heat our rescued animals' temporary home.
- $250 in initial medical costs for every animal that enters the shelter. This includes spaying or neutering, vaccinating, blood testing for feline leukemia, de-worming and examination for any health problems.
- And every donation of goods will also help by reducing the money we spend on these necessities. More money will go directly to animal care.
- We need cat, kitten and dog food, litter, litter pans, toys and scratching posts.
- We need the things you use every day in your own home - cleaning supplies, detergent, towels, light bulbs; even appliances like a washer/dryer and small fridge.
- We're always grateful for donations of time and talent. We have lots of ways you can help:
- Consider joining one of our volunteer groups
- Consider becoming a foster parent for a special needs animal or a new mom and her babies
